Job requirements
As a Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer at adesso, you design and build modern data platforms on top of the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem. You’ll work with the Fabric Lakehouse, Data Pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, Notebooks and Power BI to deliver robust, scalable and user‑friendly data solutions that enable our clients to become truly data‑driven.
Your Role in projects:
Design & build Fabric‑based data platforms
Design and implement Lakehouse architectures in Microsoft Fabric, using OneLake, Lakehouses and medallion (bronze‑silver‑gold) patterns.
Build reliable batch (and where relevant streaming) data pipelines using Fabric Data Pipelines, Dataflows Gen2 and integration with Azure data services.
Model data for analytics use cases in Power BI (star schema, semantic models) and for advanced analytics in Lakehouses.
Ingest, transform & govern data
Ingest data from APIs, flat files, on‑premises and cloud databases, and SaaS sources into OneLake / Lakehouses.
Implement clear and testable transformation logic (data quality checks, deduplication, SCD, CDC, business rules) using Notebooks, SQL, Dataflows Gen2 or Warehouse features.
Apply data governance best practices (workspaces, roles, sensitivity labels, lineage, RBAC) across Fabric.
Collaborate with Data & AI teams
Work closely with data analysts, analytics engineers, data scientists and BI developers to make data discoverable and usable.
Expose data to end‑users through Power BI datasets, semantic models and reports built on top of Fabric.
Support advanced analytics / ML workloads by preparing and structuring data within the Fabric environment.
Operate & optimize
Set up CI/CD and deployment pipelines for Fabric assets (Power BI, Data Pipelines, Notebooks, Datasets) using tools like Azure DevOps or GitHub.
Monitor and optimize data pipelines, storage and workloads for performance, reliability and cost.
Help define and implement best practices, coding standards and reusable components for Fabric within the team.
Contribute to the Data & AI community
Actively share knowledge within the Belgian and Dutch Data & AI community at adesso (brown‑bag sessions, internal talks, blogs, PoCs).
Contribute to proposals and pre‑sales activities, helping shape new Microsoft Fabric engagements.
Coach and mentor colleagues, especially around the transition from “classic” Azure/Power BI stacks to Fabric‑based architectures.
Required technical skills & knowledge:
Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Apache Spark, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake, Python, PySpark, SQL
Your profile
Technical skills
Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Fabric or a strong background in the Azure + Power BI ecosystem and the ambition to specialize in Fabric.
Good programming skills in SQL and preferably Python (for Notebooks and data engineering workloads).
Strong understanding of data modeling for analytics (star schema / dimensional modeling; data vault or 3NF is a plus).
Experience building data warehouses / data marts or analytical data stores that serve BI and reporting needs.
Familiarity with Azure data services like Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake or similar tools is a strong plus.
Experience with CI/CD (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions) and software engineering best practices (version control, testing, code reviews).
Understanding of data governance, security and compliance in the Microsoft cloud (RBAC, sensitivity labels, PII handling).
Consulting & soft skills
You enjoy talking to stakeholders, understanding their needs and translating them into pragmatic data solutions.
You can explain complex technical topics in a clear and approachable way, adapted to your audience.
You are comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams (data engineers, data scientists, cloud engineers, domain experts).
You are proactive, hands‑on, and take ownership of the solutions you build.
You are native Dutch or French speaking and fluent in ENG (both written & spoken)
This position requires current residency and work authorization in Belgium; relocation from other continents cannot be accommodated.
